Bangladesh’s Interim Government Finally Admits to Attacks on Minorities

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Bangladesh’s interim government has acknowledged 88 incidents of attacks on minorities, particularly Hindus, following the ousting of Sheikh Hasina. This admission came after India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri raised concerns about the safety of minorities during a meeting with interim government head Mohammed Yunus.
Media Secretary Shafiqul Alam stated that between 5 August and 22 October, 88 cases related to minority-targeted violence were officially registered. In connection with these incidents, 70 individuals have been arrested. Reports of fresh violence from northeastern Sunamganj, central Gazipur, and other areas suggest that the numbers of cases and arrests could rise. Some victims are believed to have ties to the previous ruling party. Details of incidents after 22 October will be released soon, he added.
