Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) – The Muslim party had approached the District Court against the Shimla Municipal Commissioner’s order to demolish 3 illegal floors of a Mosque in Sanjauli area here. The Court has dismissed the petition filed by the All-Himachal Muslim Welfare Association. This time the Court upheld the Municipal Commissioner’s decision. After the District Court’s decision, the Himachal Pradesh High Court had given an order for the demolition of the 3 illegal floors of the Mosque.
In the current situation, the roof and the wall a floor of the Mosque have been demolished. Demolition of the of the 3 floors will be carried out by the Mosque Committee at its own expense.
The High Court has given a deadline of 8 weeks for the decision of the case.
The local Municipal Court was hearing the case since 2010. In September 2024, there was strong agitation by Hindus against the Mosque. The agitation got response from the Hindus in the entire State and after Shimla, there were protests in Solan, Mandi, Kullu, Sirmaur where they demanded demolition of illegal Mosques in the respective areas.
