The RTO has also instructed to display ‘helpline numbers’ on the front of every taxi and rickshaw; but still many rickshaw and taxi drivers have not displayed the ‘helpline number’.
Citizens can lodge a complaint on the above helpline number of the respective Regional Transport Offices. If the complaint is false, however, there is a provision to register a case under the Motor Vehicle Act against the complainant.
After receiving the complaint on the ‘WhatsApp’ number, the nature of the complaint is understood. Complainant’s name, address and photograph of the concerned taxi is sought. Depending on the nature of the complaint, the driver is sent a show cause notice or counseled by the authorities. After understanding the driver’s side, if the driver is found guilty, penal action is taken according to the nature of the complaint. If there are frequent complaints about a driver, he is counseled by visiting him personally.
