Resort management apologises, withdraws post after Police complaint
Panaji – A controversy erupted when a Resort in Morjim, Goa, announced a ‘Dahi Handi’ event on Janmashtami, promoting beer consumption. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and Hindu activists filed a Police complaint, leading to the Resort management apologising and withdrawing the controversial post.
The post featured an image of Lord Krishna and mentioned “Beer will be served to welcome participants” ! Hindu activists met the Police Inspector Sharif Jakis, and expressed their outrage, stating that the event hurt Hindu religious sentiments. PI Jakis immediately called the Director of the Resort to the Police station. The Resort management, led by Mr Jagdish Prajapati, apologised and assured that such an event would not be organised again. The activists demanded strict action against those who hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and emphasized the need to promote Goa’s spiritual heritage and culture to boost tourism.
While speaking to media, the HJS representative said that the post had insulted Hindus worldwide and that such incidents would not be tolerated. Rajshree Gadekar of the ‘Ranaragini’ Wing of HJS emphasized the need to prevent such incidents.
After filing the Police complaint, the delegation met the Sarpanch of Morjim Panchayat, who assured that he would get the Resort management to apologise publicly.
