Violence erupts due to vandalism of Shri Kali Mata idol in Tripura

Houses and vehicles set on fire : 6 injured

Agartala (Tripura) – An incident of vandalism of the temple of Shri Kali Mata at Katra Bari village of Ranirbazar in the western part of Tripura took place on 25th August. Violence erupted after this incident, injuring 6 people. Houses and vehicles were vandalised and set on fire. At present, curfew has been imposed in the area and additional Police force has been deployed.

The temple of Shri Kali Mata here is the main centre of faith for the villagers. This temple is said to be 30 years old. On the morning of 25th August, devotees reached the temple for worship, when they found severed head of the idol of Shri Kali Mata. In no time the news of the incident spread far and wide and violence ensued. 9 houses were set on fire, while 6 houses were looted. 12 two-wheelers and four-wheelers were burnt.

Editorial Perspective

It is shameful for Hindus that in a Hindu-majority country, Hindu temples and idols are being attacked. Why should the Deities protect Hindus who cannot protect their temples ?
