Mumbai – Comedian Munawar Faruqui made a statement about Konkani people in one of his performances which meant, ‘ Konkani people make fools of others’. After the stern reaction from Marathi and Konkani people, he has apologised. He said, “My show was not a comedy. It was about getting to know each other. Then the topic started which had connection with Konkan. I said some funny sentences about Konkan, made fun of Konkani people; but that was not my intention. I did not want to hurt any Konkani person. I sincerely apologise to you all. Jai Hind, Jai Maharashtra.” (No Marathi or Konkani person is so naive as to not know that Munawar Faruqui is trying to cover up – Editor).

BJP MLA Nitesh Rane became aggressive and said, “We should go to this green snake named Faruqui’s house to tell ‘how the people of Konkan really are’. His tongue is moving a little too much. If he wishes to make fun of the people of Konkan in his comic performances, we know his home address very well. He will be given a ‘Malvani’ jerk soon.”

Shiv Sena MLA Sada Saravankar posted on ‘X’, ” If Munawar Faruqui does not apologise to Konkani people, this pro-Pakistan Munawar will be beaten up wherever found. Let him understand how a Konkani person beats up. A reward of Rs 1 lakh will be given to whoever beats him up. These migrants say such things about the Konkani people who are so welcoming.”

Editorial Perspective

Munawar Faruqui has many times in the past made statements against Hindu Dharma and Deities, which has led to protests against him. Now he has made an offensive statement about Konkani people. Before he does anything else, he should be booked and sentenced to jail for life.
