
Mumbai – Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar, National President of Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad (HVP) had written to the Cultural Minister and to the Director of Maharashtra State Archaeology Department in 2019 to launch their website so that people would get authentic information about the historical memorials in the State which are under the auspices of Archaeology Department. Accordingly, the website has been launched recently.
1. As per clause 4 of the Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI), it is mandatory for the Archaeology Department to make available information about the department’s activities on their website. The act was implemented on 12th October 2005 in Maharashtra; however, the department didn’t publish information of its activities nor did it launch its website.
2. Under the RTI Act, 2005, the Government and semi-Government enterprises were expected to upload information about their activities to bring transparency in their operations but Archaeology Department had not taken any action in this connection and it was brought to the notice of the Maharashtra Government by HVP’s Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar.
3. Archaeology Department’s website link is – https://www.mahaaraeology.in. Presently, the names of officers, posts held by them and addresses of their offices have been uploaded on this website.
