New Delhi – A sudden technical glitch in Microsoft’s computer system ‘Windows’ brought the work of airlines, media and banks to a standstill for several hours on 19th July. The problem was not resolved for a few hours. Due to this, air traffic was stopped. Millions of people around the world were affected by this problem. This problem was created in many European countries and America, Australia, New Zealand and India. Around 5 p.m. Microsoft officials said that they had overcome the problem and that if anyone was experiencing problems, they would fix it soon.

Earlier, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol said that due to the shutdown of Microsoft’s ‘cloud service’, many services were stopped around the world. His Ministry was keeping an eye on the whole issue.

The whole world was hit

Operations at airports in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru in India were hit hard. Services of airlines like Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Airlines and SpiceJet were disrupted due to the suspension of flight booking and ‘check-in’. Some airlines have started issuing handwritten boarding passes to passengers.

1. A Manual boarding pass was prevailing before the introduction of computers.

2. Users faced issues accessing various ‘apps’ and services.

3. Not only airports, businesses in various sectors, banks, telecommunication establishments, television and radio services were also affected by the problem.

Technically what happened exactly?

A cyber security outfit called ‘Crowdstrike’ also provides security solutions to Microsoft. A radical error (bug) was found in the program update related to their ‘Falcon sensor’. Due to this, many organisations around the world using the ‘Microsoft Windows system had to face various problems.

This issue led to the issue called ‘Blue Screen of Death’. Under this, the computer appears to be in a ‘crashed’ state. This can cause the computer system to shut down suddenly. All the content (data) in it can be deleted also. When you turn on the computer, you are presented with a blue screen and are asked if you want to restart (restart) the computer, stating that something has gone wrong. This problem is called the ‘Blue Screen of Death’.
