Discussed the swearing-in of pro-Khalistan Amritpal Singh

Washington – Pro-Khalistan Amritpal Singh has won from Khadur Sahib constituency of Punjab in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He is currently detained in a jail in Assam under the National Security Act (NSA). He could not remain present in the Parliament for the swearing-in ceremony of the members of Parliament. To discuss about this, Sikh lawyer Jaspreet Singh in the US met Kamala Harris, Vice President of the US. It is reported that in this meeting, he raised the issue of swearing-in and arrest of pro-Khalistan Amritpal Singh. Jaspreet Singh said that he received a very good response in this meeting. He has expressed hope that a solution will be found soon.
1. The meeting was held in Los Angeles, California. In this meeting, issues related to Sikhs were raised along with that of Amritpal Singh. NSA was wrongly charged to Amritpal Singh; this is completely illegal, said Jaspreet Singh at this time.
2. Amritpal Singh was arrested by the Punjab Police on 23rd April 2023. Since then, he has been kept in Dibrugarh jail in Assam. The National Security Act has been charged due to his support for the Khalistani ideology.
| Editorial Perspective
The swearing-in and arrest of pro-Khalistan Amritpal Singh falls under the jurisdiction of India. Despite this, a pro-Khalistan lawyer in the US meets the Vice President there and discusses about this. This shows that the US is poking its nose in India’s internal affairs. India must reprimand the US about this. |
