Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Khalida Zia from the ‘Bangladesh Nationalist Party’ (BNP) is leading a campaign to boycott Indian goods. Speaking on this campaign, Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said, “This campaign has failed and received very little attention from the people. Initiating this campaign aimed to create a crisis in the international market and destabilise Bangladesh’s economy. Without India’s assistance, Bangladesh’s development is not possible.” He emphasised that Bangladesh will have healthy ties with India.

1. Hasan Mahmud is also the joint secretary of ruling ‘Awami League’ led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said that maintaining good relations with neighbours like India is essential for peace and stability in Bangladesh.

2. In the past few weeks, India’s Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale visited Bangladesh. During this visit, he met with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other prominent leaders. During these meetings, discussions were held on various bilateral issues such as security, trade, investment, energy, and cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
