Canberra (Australia) – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has described domestic violence as a “national crisis” after thousands of people marched across the country to protest violence against women. Gender-based violence has killed 27 women so far this year in the country of 2.7 million people.
Thousands marched in 17 cities across Australia to draw attention to this. Prime Minister Albanese said the marches were part of a call for action by all levels of government in Australia to stop gender-based violence. “We need to do a lot in this matter. Just expressing sympathy is not enough,” Albanese said at this time.
“It is a fact that every four days a woman dies at the hands of her partner,” said the Prime Minister. PM Albanese added that a meeting of Australia’s state and territory leaders will soon be held to resolve the issue.
