Reservation based on religion is unacceptable to us : Sharad Pawar

Kolhapur (Maharashtra) – Sharad Pawar recently made a statement regarding reservations based on religion. He said, ‘We do not accept the idea of reservation based on religion. No one will do this. Even if Modi offers such a reservation, we will be against it. On the contrary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to increase communal tension by making a statement about reservations based on religion. Pawar was speaking at a press conference held in Kolhapur on 2nd May.

Modi has also been making accusations on the I.N.D.I.A. bloc about redistribution of wealth and inheritance tax, which does not have any mention in the Congress manifesto.

I was in touch with all the Prime Ministers including Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. I also met and talked with them. Heard their speeches too; however, only Narendra Modi speaks like a wandering soul, which is not surprising, because no one has dishonoured the post of Prime Minister as much as Modi. (During the tenure of Congress, their PM had said that ‘Muslims have the first right over the country’s wealth’. Is it not a dishonour to the post of Prime Minister? The people of India know very well that the post of Prime Minister was just for namesake during Congress’ tenure and what was India’s image globally! – Editor)

Editorial Perspective

In 2004, the then Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh shrunk the reservation for Scheduled Castes and Tribes and gave it to Muslims. Congress tried to give reservations to Muslims in Andhra Pradesh too. The Karnataka Government is also trying the same. Congress party and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) does only appeasement politics regarding minorities. And hence, their stance on reservation based on religion is nothing but hypocrisy !
