Mao Ning, the Spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Beijing (China) – China has reacted to the statement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ms Mao Ning, the spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “China has taken note of PM Modi’s statement. The sound and stable relations between China and India are crucial for the interests of both countries, as well as for peace and development in this region and beyond.” Prime Minister Modi said in an interview with ‘Newsweek’, an American periodical, that bilateral positive and constructive contributions at the diplomatic and military level would help both countries to ably maintain peace and stability on their borders.

About the dispute related to borders, Mao, the spokesperson said that this issue does not represent the entirety of China-India relations and should be appropriately managed within the bilateral relationship. The border dispute should be resolved and managed within the bilateral relations.

China’s official media too welcomed PM Modi’s comment. ‘China Daily’, the Government-owned English newspaper, said that it was a welcome step. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his wish to promptly solve the long-pending border issues between these two neighbouring countries, which can encourage the development of peaceful and stable ties between these two countries. Modi’s recent remark can be considered an indication of developing goodwill since both sides have been trying to find an appropriate, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the border dispute.

Editorial Perspective

China has always betrayed India if we study China’s behaviour with India in the past; therefore, India can never afford to be carefree about relations with China, rather should remain mindful and alert.
