Kolkata – ‘As someone from the legal profession, I must try and understand the other side of the story. I must read his (Nathuram Godse) writings and understand what triggered him to kill M Gandhi. Until then, I cannot choose between Gandhi and Godse’, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, former Calcutta High Court judge and BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate, said in an interview to a news channel recently. The Congress has strongly objected to this statement and has demanded from the BJP to withdraw Gangopadhyay’s Lok Sabha candidature.
Responding to the statement, Congress National General Secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote on X, ‘Gangopadhyay’s statement is totally unacceptable, and his candidature should be withdrawn forthwith by those who spare no effort to appropriate the M Gandhi’s legacy. (There is no obligation on any citizen of this country to preserve Gandhi’s legacy. Everyone has freedom of expression ! – Editor) Therefore, his candidature should be withdrawn immediately. What will the Father of the Do-nation do to protect the Father of the Nation ?’
Without knowing why #Godse killed #Gandhi, I cannot pick sides between the two.
