When we come to power, we will shut the Maharashtra Bhavan in J&K : Omar Abdullah threatens

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah

Srinagar (J&K) – The Maharashtra Government has approved the construction of ‘Maharashtra Bhavan’ in Jammu and Kashmir. This structure will be built on 2.5 acres of land in Budgam, J&K. This site is close to the Srinagar Airport. Maharashtra will be the first State to build its ‘bhavan’ here. Former Chief Minister of J&K and Vice President of the National Conference, Omar Abdullah, has opposed the Maharashtra Bhavan. He has threatened to close this building once National Conference Government comes to power in the State in October 2024. He has claimed that ‘Maharashtra Bhavan will negatively affect the local hotel business’. He was speaking at a public meeting in Kulgam.

Omar Abdulla said that Maharashtra Bhavan will be used for tourists. These would be the same tourists who currently stay in local hotels. This will take away the livelihood of local hoteliers.

Is this acceptable to the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray group ? – Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde questions

Uddhav Thackeray and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde

After Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s visit to J&K, the process of land purchase and provision of facilities for tourists started here. On Omar Abdullah’s statement, Chief Minister Shinde said, “I had requested the Governor of J&K to construct a Maharashtra Bhavan for the pilgrims who go on the Amarnath Yatra. He accepted my demand. Omar Abdullah said he would not allow Maharashtra Bhavan to be built. Is this hatred towards Maharashtra acceptable to Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray group ? How shameful and unfortunate it is that this group sits close to those who oppose the Maharashtra Bhavan.”

Editorial Perspectives

  • Abdullah family should remember that J&K is not their private property ! It won’t be surprising if, in the future, the people of India drive this family out of India.
  • If Shiv Sena chief Balasaheb Thackeray was alive today, he would have warned Abdullah family saying, “We will not let Abdullah family enter Maharashtra or elsewhere in the country.’
