18 refugees granted Indian citizenship in Ahmedabad (Gujarat)

Ahmedabad (Gujarat) – In the presence of Harsh Sanghavi, State Home Minister of Gujarat, a camp was organised in the office of District Collector wherein, 18 Hindu refugees have been granted Indian citizenship. Sanghavi said, the Union and the State Government are committed to bring all those who have acquired Indian citizenship, into the mainstream of the society.

In the notification of 2016 and 2018 gazettes, the District Magistrates of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Kutch Districts of Gujarat have been empowered to grant Indian citizenship to refugees from minority communities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. As many as 1,167 Hindu refugees from Pakistan living in Ahmedabad District  have been granted Indian citizenship so far. Sanghvi said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have made special efforts to ensure that persecuted minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh get Indian citizenship easily and quickly.
