Lok Sabha election to be held in 7 phases; counting of votes on 4th June

New Delhi – The Central Election Commission has announced schedule of Lok Sabha elections in a press conference held on 16th March. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, ‘Voting will be held in 7 phases from 19th April to 1st June and counting of votes will be done on 4th June. During this period, Assembly Elections will also be held in Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh. In addition, by-elections will be held in some places. We have also taken appropriate steps to prevent violence. We are ready to prevent violence in every way’.

Voters to get all the information on the Election Commission’s website

Now it will be easy for every voter to find their polling station. All the relevant information for the voters is provided on the official website of the Election Commission. Similarly, the voter will get all the information about the candidate in his constituency through the app ‘Know Your Candidate’, Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said.

Notices will be issued to campaigners to maintain the standard of language during campaigning

Rajiv Kumar said that serious cognisance has been taken in view of the low level of language and allegations made during the campaign. Senior campaigners of all political parties will be issued notice. Therefore, the Commission has ordered the campaigners to take due care while campaigning.

Action team to reach the spot within 100 minutes in an event of malpractices

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said, ‘There were total 4 challenges before us while preparing for the election. This included preventing threats, distribution of money and commodities, as well as rumours. For this, we have issued proper instructions to the Collector. We will keep a close eye on the distribution of alcohol and sarees and action will be taken against those involved in such activities. During the election, if money is being distributed among the voters, or if there are malpractices, anybody may take a picture and upload it on the ‘cVigil’ app, and we will identify the location of your mobile phone from the latitude and longitude and our team will reach there within 100 minutes’. Number of female voters increased in 12 States

The number of female voters has increased in 12 States compared to male voters. There are 97 crore voters in India this year.

Voting will be held in 5 phases in Maharashtra

Voting will be held in 5 phases in Maharashtra, i.e., on 19th April, 26th April, 7th May, 13th May and 20th May.
