
Varanasi (UP) – Shops selling meat within a periphery of 2 km of Kashi Vishwanath Temple have been shut down. These shops were served a notice to shut down a week ago. The shops remained open despite the notice. In the Beniya area of Varanasi, 26 shops have been shut down and Municipality will continue this campaign.

In the meeting held on 18th January, Corporator Indresh Kumar Singh, under Section 91(2) of the Municipal Corporation Act-1959, had proposed a ban on meat shops located in the vicinity of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham. The House had agreed to ban meat shops within a periphery of 2 km of The Dham. Following a survey conducted as part of the drive, in the first phase, the BMC had issued notices to 26 shops in Beniyabag and New Road areas.
