Income Tax department froze our accounts : Congress’ allegations

New Delhi – A day after SC quashed electoral bonds, on 16th of February, Congress treasurer Ajay Maken alleged that their Party’s bank accounts were frozen. Maken said, “Banks are not honouring the cheques issued by the party. Right now we don’t have any money to spend, to pay electricity bills, to pay salaries to our employees. Everything will be impacted, not only Nyay Yatra but all political activities will be impacted…” he said. “Income tax asked for ₹210 crore recovery from Youth Congress and Congress party,” said Maken. He held BJP and Income Tax department responsible for this situation.

Ajay Maken said, “our Party funds used to come from crowdfunding, and we would meet expenses with that money. Now, people might wonder if the money does not reach the Party, why should we fund it.

Congress’ frozen accounts restored

The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal lifted the ban on frozen accounts of Congress at 12.30 p.m. On 16th of February, an hour before the order, Congress treasurer Ajay Maken had alleged that the Party’s bank accounts had been frozen.
