A prominent Ulema involved in issuing Halal Certificates in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – A prominent Ulema’s involvement has come to light in Uttar Pradesh in the case of issuing Halal Certificates. The Special Task Force (STF) of the Police has obtained significant evidence in this matter. The news was broadcast by ‘OpIndia’. On 12th February 2024, STF arrested the President of the Halal Council of India, Maulana Habib Yusuf Patel, Vice President Maulana Mudassir Sapadia, Secretary Mufti Tahir Zakir, and Treasurer Mohammad Anwar Khan from Mumbai. They were accused of extorting money from various establishments under the guise of providing Halal Certificates.

Muslim organisations – India Private Limited Chennai, Jamiyat Ulema-e-Hind Halal Trust Delhi, and Halal Council of India Mumbai were issuing Halal Certificates to various establishments. The purpose of these certificates was to certify that all these products are prepared by Muslims according to Sharia and are suitable for Muslim use.

1. The STF has frozen the bank accounts of the accused involved in the halal case and is arresting their associates.

2. The money was being sent to bank accounts both in India and abroad, raising suspicions that it might have been used for anti-national activities.

3. So far, names of about 20 establishments have come up, with whom the accused were dealing.

4. Last year, the Yogi Adityanath Government in Uttar Pradesh had decided to imprison those selling products with Halal Certificates.
