Astana (Kazakhstan) – Attempts are being made to ban the hijab in the Rajasthan schools. In Karnataka too, the earlier BJP Government had banned hijab in schools and colleges, but the decision was revoked by the incumbent Congress Government. While the Muslims are opposing the ban on hijab, the Muslim majority country Kazakhstan’s Government has banned hijab in the schools. Kazakhstan was separated from Russia in 1991. The ban on hijab applies to both, the students and the teachers. Kazakhstan is a secular State, though it is a Muslim majority country. Its Muslim population is about 70% of the total population. The Muslim organisations of Kazakhstan opposed the Government’s decision to ban hijab, but the Government held its position firm.

While imposing the ban, the Government stated, ‘Wearing the hijab is banned in the school as it is not part of the school uniform. The special symbols identify with that particular religion. This is not correct for schools. It is necessary to emphasise that all the religions are equal before the law. Kazakh Government will not compromise on secularism. And so, the wearing of hijab in educational institution is banned. This ban is not in force outside the schools.’

Kazakhstan is a secular country and shall remain so – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev

The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, said, “We are a secular country and will remain so. The school is an educational institute where the people come to imbibe knowledge. Religious belief is a personal matter. Our country’s law assures religious freedom to all. I feel that it would be correct for the children to decide this for themselves, when they become adults.”

This is a slap in the face of the fanatic Muslims of India, who like to show-off their greater faith in Islam !
