New Delhi – Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, in a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, expressed his concerns over fencing the Indo-Myanmar border. The Meitei Heritage Society has strongly condemned the CM over his stance saying, ‘Lalduhoma’s claim that border fencing is against Mizoram’s interest is shocking’.
The Chin-Kuki-Zo insurgent groups are fighting for an independent country, the so called Zalengam, Kukiland, or Zoland, intending to break away parts of India’s Northeast, Myanmar, and Bangladesh.
Lalduhoma’s statement is against India’s territorial integrity and directly supports anti-India activities. His claim is a serious threat to national security.
Due to the lack of border fencing, refugees from Myanmar are entering India illegally and drugs are being smuggled. The Free Movement Regime has also led to the migration of the people of Myanmar to India. It is also the root cause of the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
The Meitei Heritage Society has demanded that CM Lalduhoma withdraw his anti-national statements and work with the Central Government to complete the Border Fencing Project
53,500 refugees came from Myanmar to Mizoram in 2.25 years : United Nations
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in a May 2023 report said that 53,500 migrants from Myanmar came to India between February 2021 and May 2023. Many immigrants are said to be obtaining Indian identity documents through fraud, becoming Indian citizens. It’s crucial to end this fraud, and border fencing is a vital step in that direction.
