There are total 245 MPs in the Rajya Sabha. These include 105 from the BJP and its allies, 64 from the ‘Indi’ alliance and 76 others. Of these, 62 opposition MPs have been suspended. The present number of MPs in the Lok Sabha is 538. There are 329 MPs from the NDA, 142 from the ‘Indi’ alliance, and 67 from other parties. Out of them 79 opposition MPs have been suspended.

Highlights from the Parliament,

Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee mimicked Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankhar at the entrance of the Parliament. Many leaders of opposition parties including Rahul Gandhi were present there. Dhankhar expressed his displeasure about this in the Parliament.

Opposition leaders raised slogans like ‘Modi Murdabad’, ‘Tanashahi Murdabad’ and ‘Modi Sarkar Murdabad’.

According to Senior Journalist and Political Analyst K. Vikram Rao, this is the first time that such a large number of members have been suspended from Parliament in a single day.

Speaker Om Birla said that a high-level inquiry is underway regarding the security of the Parliament. An enquiry committee has been formed in this matter. The politicisation of this incident is unfortunate. There should be a discussion in the house while sticking to the democratic system.

Editorial Perspective

This is yet another example of mockery of Indian democracy in the world ! It is shameful for the MPs of the opposition parties to politicise the matter, when there is a need to make concerted efforts to eliminate the flaws in the security !
