Denigration of Hindu Deities and Hate Speech at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar

New Delhi – A shocking incident has come to light at Jantar Mantar, where open denigration of Hindu Dharma and anti-National incitement took place during a student protest over the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) issue, led by the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ and Sonam Wangchuk. In response, a joint delegation of Supreme Court advocates and the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti submitted a written complaint at the Sansad Marg Police Station in New Delhi on 18th July, demanding strict legal action.

A formal complaint was lodged in person with the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sansad Marg Police Station. The delegation included Supreme Court Advocates Makarand Adkar, Amita Sachdeva, Atul Sharma, Mayank Dwivedi, Keshari Satya, Harsh Vardhan, and Saurabh Mishra, alongside Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s Delhi State Coordinator Mr Kartik Salunkhe and Mr Shriram Luktuke.

1. According to the complaint, stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra hurt the sentiments of 100 crore Hindus by making a highly derogatory statement from the stage, saying, “For years, this Government has been using the name of Sita’s husband (Shriram) to work for Nita’s husband”. Additionally, a woman on the protest stage sang Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s provocative verses, “All idols will be removed… only Allah’s name will remain”, which was a direct assault on Hindu Dharma, which advocates Idol worship as a form of devotion. The stage also saw the presence of Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, father of Delhi riots accused Umar Khalid and an individual linked to the banned radical outfit SIMI. Furthermore, actor Prakash Raj allegedly incited the youth to rebel against the system, stating from the podium, ‘We do not care even if we are labelled terrorists or Pakistanis.’

2. These actions clearly reveal that this is not a student protest, but rather a political agenda driven by anti-National and communist ideologies.

3. The complaint cites the landmark Supreme Court judgment on hate speech (Shaheen Abdullah v. Union of India), asserting that the Police must initiate immediate suo motu action per those guidelines. The delegation demanded the immediate registration of an FIR under Sections 299 (hurting religious sentiments), 196 (promoting enmity), 152 (endangering sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India), and 353 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Furthermore, through this formal complaint addressed to the Union Home Minister and the Delhi Police Commissioner, they have called for a thorough investigation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) into the funding of the protest and the involvement of individuals linked to the banned outfit SIMI.
