Yangon (Myanmar) – Myanmar’s political environment has become highly explosive and the country may soon break up. The same has been acknowledged by the President of Myanmar as well. A conflict between the rebel groups and the army has been going on for the past 2 years and the rebels have gained control over large areas of Myanmar. These groups have also captured one of the two roads connecting India to Myanmar, which is considered a threat to India. The rebel groups have always been supported by China. China is trying to increase its influence over Myanmar. Among the armed rebel groups, the ‘Three Brotherhood Alliance’ is at the forefront and is supported by China.
If the rebel groups overthrow the current Military Rule in Myanmar, China will establish its control over Myanmar through these groups. International experts think that such a situation will directly hit India since it will endanger the security of North-East India.
The rebel groups have also taken control of the China-Myanmar border. China has started extensive military exercises on the border citing the protection of its sovereignty. It has also deployed large cannons and radars. This information was given by the Chinese Government’s newspaper ‘Global Times’.
Myanmar conflict is a threat to North-East India
Prof. Avinash Paliwal of the London University said about this situation, “There is a high possibility of disintegration of Myanmar. China’s military exercises are not only to protect its borders, but also to send a message to the West that Beijing wants to stabilise its border areas. This growing Chinese influence over Myanmar is an alarm bell for India’s Northeast region. North-East India is already plagued by militancy and communal violence”.
Editorial Perspective
India must be prepared for a war keeping in mind China’s expansionist attitude. |
