Bengaluru (Karnataka) – ‘Vikram’ (lander) has done a good job and is now happily asleep on the moon. If Vikram wants to wake up in the near future, then he will, but until then we will have to wait. Efforts to establish contact with it will continue, said ISRO chief Dr S Somnath. During the Chandrayaan-3 mission, the Vikram lander collected important information on the lunar surface for 14 days. After that as the lunar night time started, the lander went into ‘sleep mode’. Dr Somnath was referring to this incident in his above statement. He was speaking at a programme organised in Rameswaram on the occasion of former President Dr AP J Abdul Kalam’s 92nd birth anniversary.

While giving information about ISRO’s future space exploration missions, Somnath also confirmed that – ‘We will keep trying to carry out many more such exploratory missions. We are planning to go to Mars and Venus. We also intend to go to the moon again sometime.

Planning is also underway to study the temperature and climate near the Earth’s climate belt. About two months ago i.e. on 23rd August, the ‘Vikram’ lander successfully made a ‘soft landing’ on the Lunar surface. India is the fourth country to achieve this feat.
