The hardware of Israel’s Air Defence System has not been updated for 12 years
In 2011, Israel created an Air Defence System called ‘Iron Dome’ to defend against air attacks. It was described as the most reliable Air Defence System in the world. Hamas fired missiles into southern Israel on 10th May 2023. Iron Dome failed to prevent it.

An investigation after that attack revealed that Iron Dome’s hardware was not updated since 2011; but its software was frequently updated. The hardware was not able to communicate with its software at the time of the attack. ‘No missile system is fully reliable’, said Michael Armstrong, an Assistant Professor at Brock University. He added that the methods of attack are changing recently.
