Dhaka, Bangladesh—The situation in Bangladesh has not yet returned to normal since Muhammad Yunus took over the reins of the interim Government. An economic crisis has hit the country. Now, Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman has directed the army to increase alertness as terrorist attacks are possible next month.
1. In a meeting with senior army officers in Dhaka, General Waqar indicated that terrorist attacks may occur next month. He asked all security agencies to be alert.
2. The army chief’s statement came at a time when several cases of increasing religious attacks were coming to light in Bangladesh in recent times. The instability in the country has increased since the Sheikh Hasina Government was overthrown in August 2024.
3. General Waqar also highlighted Bangladesh’s deteriorating law and order situation. He said, although the crime rate had remained the same as in previous years, some blatant incidents had generated an atmosphere of fear among the people. He opined to stop and control those crimes.
