Ajmer (Rajasthan) – Parents are expressing their distress regarding a school, which is asking for sensitive measurements of female students’ bust and hips. The school claims that this information is necessary to determine suitable sports activities for the students. However, this request has sparked concerns among parents, especially considering the school’s history.

It’s worth noting that this particular school was involved in a significant sexual exploitation scandal in the 1980s and 1990s. Notably, members of the prominent Chishti family of Ajmer Dargah and certain Congress party members were implicated in these events. A movie titled ‘Ajmer 92’ has even been released, depicting these disturbing incidents.

Within the premises of Sophia Senior Secondary School in Ajmer, which has a student body of over 2,500, all students have been mandated to complete a ‘Health and Activity Card’ form. This form contains a list of sports activities for students to choose from and also requires details such as eyesight, hearing, dental health, along with measurements of waist, hips, and bust. Additionally, medical certificates from a clinic must be provided as part of the submission process.

Sudhir Tomar, a representative from the school, justifies this practice by explaining that the form intends to calculate the students’ Body Mass Index (BMI) and subsequently direct them toward suitable sports based on their physique.

The Education Department has established specific guidelines for making decisions about students’ participation in sports. Schools requesting unnecessary and invasive information like body measurements should be subject to investigations and appropriate actions by the authorities.
