Police lathi-charged Kanwariyas as Muslim women block Kanwar Yatra route in Bareilly (UP)

Superintendent of Police transferred, 2 officers suspended

Bareilly (UP) – At Jogi Navada, Muslim women staged a sit-in protest on the Kanwar Yatra route. Even though the Police tried to remove them, they were not ready to move. Finally, when the Police dispersed the Kanwariyas by lathi-charge, the women withdrew their protest and left. The Government has transferred the Superintendent of Police Prabhakar Chaudhary and suspended Inspector Abhishek Singh and Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar in connection with the lathi-charge.

According to media reports, Muslims pelted stones on the Kanwar Yatra in the Gusai Gautiya area last week. At that time, the Police had lathi-charged them. Then on 31st July, when the Kanwariyas were going to the temple for consecration, Muslim women staged a sit-in protest on that route. There was tension as the Kanwariyas insisted on following the same route. So, the Police lathi-charged the Kanwariyas.

Editorial Viewpoints

  • If such Police are booked and put behind bars, other Policemen will not dare oppress Hindus.
  • This action of the Police is like the proverb ‘leave the thief and hang the ascetic’. Is the Bareilly Police from India or Pakistan to do such injustice to Hindus?
