Precious time of the Court is being wasted on an imaginary issue while several cases are pending

Jain Acharya Shiv Muni writes a letter to the President against same-sex marriage

New Delhi – For the past few days, the Supreme Court has been daily hearing petitions on the demand for recognition of same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage has already been opposed by Hindu organisations, Saints, etc. Now even Jain sages have started opposing. Jain Acharya Shiv Muni has written a letter to President Draupadi Murmu opposing this. ‘It is inappropriate that the precious time of the Court is being wasted on a fictitious issue while several cases are pending’, he said.

Points mentioned in this letter by Jain Acharya Shiv Muni,

1. Same-sex marriage should not be recognised by law. There is no need to discuss issues like same-sex marriage when there are so many issues pending in India today. Issues like bringing people out of poverty, education for all, a pollution-free environment, and population control need to be worked on. Supreme Court does not show any urgency about these.

2. India is a country of all religions, castes, and tribes. Same-sex marriage has not been recognised here for centuries. Marriage is related to human development.

3. The rights of homosexuals have already been protected by the Supreme Court. Same-sex marriage may not be a fundamental right, but a statutory right. This should not be recognised under the Special Marriage Act. This Act is for women and men.

4. Marriage is a social institution. It cannot be destroyed or transformed now. Marriage is important in India, and it is a great institution. It has stood out in every test over time. Attempts are being made to impose Western practices on independent India.
