Malaysian Court declares the conversion of 2 Hindu children to Islam illegal

The conversion was done without the permission of the mother

Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) –The Malaysian Courts have declared illegal the conversion of 2 Hindu children to Islam. The Government had pleaded that the conversion be declared legal. The conversion had been done without the permission of the mother; the Court said that conversion without permission of both the parents is not legal.

Loh Siew Hong had fought for 8 long years for the custody of her children and to get the conversion of her children to Islam illegal. In 2022 Hong lost the case in the High Court. Then she appealed against the High Court’s decision in the Federal Court. The Superior Court declared the conversion as illegal. The incident of conversion had happened in the State of Perlis. During the hearing the Federal Court commented ‘If the Perlis government is allowed to plead its case then it would be like encouraging anti-constitution acts like conversion.’
