Decision taken due to rise in Islamic extremist activities at the University

New York (USA)– The Trump administration has blocked $2.2 billion (approximately ₹18,000 crore) in funding to Harvard University, one of the world’s most prestigious institutions. President Donald Trump made this decision due to increasing extremist activities on campus. There were repeated complaints of hatred being spread against Jews, and pro-Hamas demonstrations had taken place. Despite multiple warnings, the university administration failed to curb such actions. The Trump administration also accused Harvard of discrimination against Jewish professors and students.
Trump blocks over $2bn in funding to Harvard University!
Reason: Surge in Islamic extremist activities on campus!
In India, institutions like JNU, Jadavpur and other universities have become hubs of anti-India and anti-Hindu activities.

Trump administration had issued several warnings
Before making the decision, President Trump had sent a letter to the Harvard administration with demands for significant reforms. The letter stated that the university must identify students who support terrorism, stop glorifying terrorism within the institution, and reform the admission process. However, Harvard rejected these demands, claiming that investigating such students would amount to an attack on their freedom. Following this, the Trump administration decided to halt the funding.
$9 billion aid under threat too
The Trump administration noted that Harvard’s dangerous stance violates US laws and is considering halting an additional $9 billion in Government funding. The administration believes elite institutions like Harvard should be held accountable for the harmful activities allowed under their watch. If universities cannot remain neutral, they should not receive public funds.
Harvard professors sue Trump administration
Some professors from Harvard have filed lawsuits against President Trump, arguing that withholding federal funds is an attack on university autonomy and unconstitutional. Two groups of professors have filed cases in District Court, claiming that cutting funds violates freedom of expression.
Destructive activities at Harvard
During the Israel-Hamas war, several protests were organised at Harvard, including calls for the US to cut ties with Israel. Some demonstrations openly supported Hamas, and others justified Hamas’s attacks on Israel. Under Trump’s leadership, the Government has begun taking action against such elements. Allegations have also surfaced that Harvard has favoured non-Jewish and minority students in admissions, prompting the Trump administration to demand a merit- based admission system instead.
