Arrests of 53 jihadis reported in last ten months in Assam !

State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati (Assam) – From March 2022, 53 ‘jihadis’ have been arrested in Assam so far, informed the State Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while answering a question raised in the State Assembly session. Sarma also said that there was the involvement of non-Indian individuals in jihadi activities carried out in the State. BJP MLA Terash Gowalla asked for details on this issue.

CM Sarma said further,

1. One jihadi from Bangladesh viz Saiful Islam aka Harun Rashid aka Suman was among the arrested ‘jihadis’. He worked as Imam in a mosque at Barpeta where he even taught the Arabic language to students. He used to distribute books related to jihadi activities among students, pulling them into ‘jihadi’ activities.

2. It was exposed that 5 other Bangladeshi ‘jihadis’ were also distributing jihadi material amongst people and motivating them to join ‘jihadi’ activities. They, however, managed to run away. They also used to work in the mosque.

3. There are two women among the ‘jihadis’ arrested so far, from Dhubri and Morigaon in the State.

4. From March 2022, a total of 9 cases have been registered in 7 districts related to ‘jihadi’ activities, viz. Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Morigaon, Dhubri, Goalpara, Tamulpur, and Nalbari.

Editorial viewpoint

It shows Assam is infested with ‘jihadis’ ! The Government’s most stringent action will only keep some control over other ‘jihadis’.
