UN report exposes oppression of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang, China

China refutes accusations !

Geneva (Switzerland) – The United Nations (UN) has released a report on the human rights violations in Xinjiang province of China, wherein it has been stated that there was severe oppression of Uyghur Muslims in this region, and it is a crime against humanity. The report has been released before the end of the four-year tenure of Michelle Bachelet, Human Rights High Commissioner at the UN. The report was released at a conference held in Geneva on Wednesday night. It took nearly one year to prepare the report. The report on the violation of human rights was presented at the conference only 13 minutes before Bachelet’s tenure was to come to an end. It has been accused that about ten lakh Uyghur Muslims in the Xinjiang province were taken into custody and oppressed. The accusations have been true as per the report. On the other hand, China has refuted the accusations of human rights violations in Xinjiang province. China has explained that a professional training centre was operated in that region to put a curb on extremists.

Bachelet stated that the problems in Xinjiang were quite grave, and they have been forwarded to the high-level and regional officers at the national level. Bachelet has also appealed to the UN to pay attention to the Uyghur autonomous region in Xinjiang.
