China rejects India-US proposal to designate Pakistani terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki an international terrorist

Pakistani terrorist Abdul Rehman

New York (US) – China has rejected a proposal by the United Nations Security Council to declare Pakistani terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki an international terrorist. The proposal was made jointly by India and the US. Makki is the brother-in-law of Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the 26/11 terror attacks on Mumbai.

China has behaved similarly in the past also. India’s efforts to declare Masood Azhar, the leader of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, a jihadi terrorist organisation in Pakistan, an international terrorist succeeded in 2019, almost after 10 years. At that time also China opposed it.

The US, Britain, China, France and Russia are the five permanent members of the Security Council. They have veto power, which means that even if one of these countries votes against a proposal, that proposal is rejected. (To change this rule, India should put pressure on the UN. – Editor)

Editorial Viewpoint

China should stop its open support of terrorism and unite with other countries to curb terrorism.
