Madurai (TN) – Mayiladuthurai District Revenue Officer J. Balaji has denied permission for the Pattina Pravesam, a religious tradition of the Dharmapuram Mutt. Pattina Pravesam is a tradition of carrying the Seer of the Dharmapuram Adheenam in a palanquin on their shoulders by devotees. Permission was denied as it was regressive and a violation of human rights. However, the office-bearers of the Mutt have decided to follow the traditional rituals. The event is to be held on 22nd May 2022. Hindus have demanded that CM Stalin should intervene in this matter. This Mutt is near Meenakshi Amman Temple.

The 293rd head of Adheenam, Harihara Sri Gnanasambanda Desika Swamigal, said that Dharmapuram Adheenam is 500-years-old, and this tradition has also been going on for the last 500 years. I am sad about the sudden denial of permission. The British never denied it.
Vaishnava Guru Mannargudi Shri Sendalangara Jeeyar said Pattina Pravesham is a traditional religious ritual. No one has the right to stop it.
