Guwahati (Assam) – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted saying, there is much in a name. The names of each city, town and village should reflect their culture and traditions.

We are trying to rename such places across the State. We shall launch a portal to invite suggestions on change of names across Assam which are contrary to our civilisation, culture & derogatory to any caste or community.

Sarma had made a statement in this matter earlier. He had given an example of ‘Kalapahar’. Kalapahar was a religious fanatic ruler. He had destroyed the famous Kamakhya Temple. Therefore, no place should have the name Kalahpahar. Sarma said this place can be renamed after the suggestions from the public.
