Two religious fanatics from Mumbai get 8 years of jail for joining ISIS

• What is the guarantee that the jihadi mentality of the accused will change after 8 years ?
• The public should also know how many religious fanatics went to join such terrorist organisations and how many were arrested and imprisoned by the Government !
• Earlier, the Police had counselled several religious fanatics trying to join this terrorist organisation ! Now, considering the punishment meted out to these accused, will the Police realise that such mentalities need imprisonment, not counselling ?

Mumbai – A special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 7th January sentenced Mohsin Sayyed and Rizwan Ahmed, both from Mumbai, to eight years in prison for their attempt to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Both have been fined ₹10,000 each. In case of non-payment, the sentence will be extended for another 3 months.

Mohsin and Rizwan are residents of Malvani. They both left home in 2015 to join ISIS. A case was registered against them at Kala Chowki Police Station. After the case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency, a charge sheet was filed against them in July 2016. Both had pleaded guilty in December 2021 to a special Court seeking pardon for the sentence. They escaped life imprisonment as they confessed to the crime.
