Guwahati, Assam – Kidney diseases have been on the rise in Nagaon and Morigaon districts of the state, allegedly due to the use of urea by fish farmers. The fishing industry in these districts is predominantly controlled by immigrant Muslims. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warned that buying fish from such sources could be dangerous.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of fish in the diet of Assam’s people. He highlighted that Morigaon, Nagaon, and Cachar are the state’s top fish-producing districts. However, he warned that some individuals are deliberately distributing urea-laced fish to the public. He urged residents to stay vigilant and assured them that the government is taking action to address this harmful practice.
