Raipur (Chhattisgarh) – Kalicharan Maharaj was arrested by Chhattisgarh Police for making a derogatory comment on Mohandas Gandhi in Dharma Sansad at Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. He is charged with treason. As per the information given by the Raipur Police, Kalicharan Maharaj lived in rented accommodation, 25 kilometres away from Khajuraho. He was arrested at 4 a.m. by the Raipur Police and they reached Raipur by the evening.

Madhya Pradesh BJP Government has criticised Chhattisgarh`s Congress Government for arresting Kalicharan Maharaj. BJP Government said Chhattisgarh`s Congress Government has violated inter-State laws by arresting Kalicharan Maharaj without the knowledge of Madhya Pradesh Police. The MP Police Director-General has been asked to register a constraint with the Chhattisgarh Director-General of Police regarding the arrest process and seek clarification. On the other hand, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupen Baghel said, ‘action was taken without violating any laws. MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra asked, ‘Are you happy or sad with the arrest of someone who insulted Gandhi ?’ (Bhupen Baghel should clarify, why was Sonia Gandhi crying when the jihadi terrorists in Batla House in Delhi were killed ?
