
New Delhi – In a surprise address to the nation on 25th December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Covid-19 vaccination will start on 3rd January onward for children in the 15-18 age group. PM Modi said, ‘The Covid-19 pandemic has created a major health problem for children. We are taking a big step in that direction. From the first Monday of the new year, i.e., January 3, we will be vaccinating children in the age group of 15 to 18 years. Covid warriors, healthcare workers (doctors, hospital staff, etc.), and frontline workers (employees working in essential services such as public healthcare, financial and national security) need to be protected with priority and will start receiving a booster dose from 10th January’.

PM Modi further said, ‘Considering the danger to the citizens above 60 years of age, they will be given the third dose on the advice of a doctor. It will also start on 10th January. Although there is a risk of Omicron, there is no reason to panic’. He also appealed to exercise vigilance and strict adherence to the preventive measures of Covid-19.
