Hospitals run by public charitable trusts should include ‘Charitable’ in the name and prominently display the schemes for the poor

Memorandum to the Charity Commissioners in various Districts in Maharashtra by the Arogya Sahayya Samiti

Mumbai, 18^th December (News) – The State Charity Commissioner has issued a directive to Charitable hospitals in the State to include the word ‘Dharmaday’ or ‘Charitable’ in their name and to publish it, so that poor patients easily know they can avail free or concessional treatment under the reserved quota. When the member of the Arogya Sahayya Samiti visited charitable hospitals in various Districts of Maharashtra, they found that the above order was not being implemented by some charitable hospitals, yet the memorandum demanding the inclusion of the term ‘Charitable’ in the Hospital’s name on the front side was given to the Charity Commissioners in Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Satara, Nashik, Jalgaon, Nagar and Nanded Districts on behalf of the Arogya Sahayya Samiti.

A Memorandum given to the Charity Commissioners states,

Some Charitable hospitals had not put up the information related to various Government schemes from time to time (The number of reserved cots for poor patients, the health facilities provided at concessional rates, etc.)
A Directive should be issued under Section 41 A and 41 D of Bombay Public Trust Act asking to include ‘Charitable’ in the name of charitable hospitals or at least make a mention about it at a prominent place and a report to be submitted to your office about complying with the order.
The office should issue the order to publish the nature of the concessions given under Health Schemes so that common public will get the benefit of those schemes.
