Prayagraj (UP) – Uttar Pradesh Police has set up a special investigation team to probe into the suspicious death of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad President Mahant Narendra Giri. The Police have registered a case under section 306 regarding the death. Anand Giri, a disciple of Mahant Narendra Giri, has been arrested in the case, while Adya Prasad Tiwari, a priest of the Lete Hanumanji temple here, and his son Sandeep Tiwari are being questioned. The names of these two were in the suicide note written by the Mahant. Anand Giri is accused of mentally harassing Mahant Narendra Giri. In this case, 8 people are likely to undergo a lie detector test. A builder is reportedly involved in the case. Police have seized Mahant Narendra Giri’s mobile phone and will scrutinise it. It is said that Mahant Narendra Giri has recorded a video on the mobile before his death. State Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, “After a thorough investigation of the incident, strict action will be taken against those found guilty”.

On the morning of 21st September, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the Baghambari Math at Prayagraj and paid obeisance to the Mahant’s body. Speaking to the media on the occasion, he said, “The body of the Mahant will be autopsied tomorrow (22nd September) and after that, he will be given a Samadhi.”
Attempt to threaten Narendra Giri
Narendra Giri is said to have been threatened by an unknown person through a video. The Police are trying to retrieve the details of the video.
Former Minister from Samajwadi Party likely to be questioned
The name of a Minister from the previous Samajwadi Party Government is surfacing in this case. The former Minister is likely to be questioned. This Ex-Minister used to visit Baghambari Math to meet Mahant Narendra Giri. The arrested disciple Anand Giri is also believed to have close ties with this former Minister.

Anand Giri has expressed doubts over the letter written by Mahant Narendra Giri before his death. He said, ‘Mahant Narendra Giri could not even write properly. His disciple Nirbhay Dwivedi, however, can write properly’.

‘On the day of his death, Mahant Narendra Giri was waiting for someone’, Nirbhay Dwivedi told Police. One of the sevaks told Police, ‘Narendra Giri had asked me to bring the rope two days ago’. Narendra Giri hanged himself with the same rope said the sevak.
Petition filed in Court seeking CBI inquiry
A petition seeking a CBI probe into the suspicious death of Mahant Narendra Giri has been filed in the Allahabad High Court. Petitioner Advocate Sunil Chaudhary has also demanded immediate suspension of Prayagraj District Collector and Additional Superintendent of Police.
