What is ‘Narcotics Jihad’ ?
|
Kottayam (Kerala) – Bishop Joseph Kallarngatt of Malabar Church has stated that Christians are being entrapped in ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Narcotics Jihad’. Muslims staged a protest outside Bishop Joseph Kallarngatt‘s house. More than two hundred religious fanatics of the Muslim Mahal Coordination Committee had participated in it. A complaint has also been lodged with the Police against Bishop.
The BJP has backed Bishop’s statement. BJP’s Kerala State President K Surendran said this is a serious issue and should be discussed by society. (Hindus feel that BJP should inform the Central Government about it and investigate thoroughly, and take strict action against the culprits – Editor)
Catholic Organisations have supported this statement by the Bishop. Christians said that narcotics are having a big effect on some young people. They have become addicted to drugs. Narcotic Jihad is running through hotels and juice centres. Radical jihadists are behind this.
A. A. Rahim of the Democratic Youth Federation of India has said that the statement made by Bishop was unfortunate and without the proper information.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Chairman PT Thomas, while criticising, said that such statements could spoil the atmosphere in the society. (If Congress thinks that to state the facts in front of society means deteriorating the atmosphere, does that mean Congress wants the society to tolerate injustice ? People feel that Thomas despite being Christian, disagreeing with Bishop’s statement is a result of his being in Congress. – Editor)

On the statement made by Bishop Joseph Kallarngatt, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarai Vijayan said that Bishop is an influential religious scholar. We are first time hearing the word ‘Narcotic Jihad’.
It is not only to Christians it is for Hindus also.

A religion cannot be targeted for the narcotics problem. To do this means negatively affecting the whole society. Hence, we are worried. A person holding such a responsible post should make any statement carefully. Statements leading to religious divisions should be avoided.
