Dharwad (Karnataka) – The Karnataka State Government has imposed a ban on any public celebration during Ganesh Festival. Shriram Sena Founder President, Pramod Mutalik and workers of Shriram Sena staged an agitation in protest against this decision. They worshipped the Shri Ganesh Idol in front of the District Collector office and protested. The agitators stated that the State Government is implementing anti-Hindu protocols. It is inappropriate to impose restrictions in the name of the coronavirus. The Government should allow the public consecration ceremony of Shri Ganesh. If their demand is not fulfilled they would perform the consecration ceremony of Shri Ganesh. Against the backdrop of the Ganesh Festival, the State Government has issued guidelines banning any public celebrations.

Pramod Mutalik said, on the one hand, restaurants, malls, shooting of movies, cinema halls are getting concessions during the corona pandemic but on the other, several restrictions have been imposed on Ganesh Festival. If these restrictions are not lifted, then the families dependent on the business during this time as well as the Government revenue will be affected. The celebration of the Ganesh Festival plays a very important role in providing peace and stability in the family. Ganesh Festival spreads Chaitanya in all the activities in the society. The worker class in society gets financial support and the Government treasury is filled with the money earned during this time.

Keshav Hegade from Vishva Hindu Parishad said that last year we were permitted to celebrate the public Ganesh Festival by following all the coronavirus guidelines. We demand to permit to celebrate the Ganesh Festival without hurting the public sentiments and following the coronavirus protocols even this year.
