What is the Assam-Mizoram border dispute?

Assam-Mizoram border dispute has been going on since the British times and is over a hundred years old. The main problem is that the two States do not have clearly demarcated borders. For the past few years, this border dispute has become a dispute between Hindus and Muslims. The people of Mizoram allege that the people in Assam border areas are mainly Bangladeshi Muslim intruders. The Hindus on the Mizoram border fear that these intruders are encroaching on Mizoram land illegally. Assam and Mizoram share a boundary spanning 164.6 kms. Violence had erupted between people in the border areas in August 2020 and February 2021 due to territorial disputes. Assam Police had launched a crackdown on alleged encroachments on their land. Border disputes between the two States has flared up ever since and the situation is tense since 10th July
