New Delhi- The yearly Varkari pilgrimage to Pandharpur was cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Similarly, this year too the State Government has not allowed the pilgrimage to Pandharpur, except for 10 prime Dindies by bus. Sant Namdev Maharaj Sansthan had appealed State Government’s decision in the Supreme Court. The Court dismissed the plea during a hearing on 19th July. No pilgrimage has been allowed considering the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Maharashtra.

The plea stated that the decision to dismiss the permission to the pilgrimage of lakhs of Varkaris and 250 registered Palkhis is a kind of infringement of the basic rights of Varkaris.
