Journalist Tarun Tejpal gets acquitted in a 2013 sexual assault case

Goa Sessions Court’s verdict on a rape and assault case

Panaji (Goa) – The founder and former Editor-in-Chief of Tehelka (a news magazine), Tarun Tejpal was acquitted by the Mapusa Sessions Court on 16^th May in a 2013 sexual assault case involving a former colleague.

Tarun Tejpal was accused of sexually assaulting a colleague during an event organised at a 5-star hotel in Bambolim in 2013. He was subsequently arrested on 30^th November 2013 but was later granted bail in 2014. The Goa Crime Branch had filed a 3,000-page chargesheet against Tejpal on 1^7th February 2014. The charges against him were finalised on 28^th September and the Court hearing had started from 15^th March 2018. The Police had filed a 161-page supplementary chargesheet against him in 2021. In this case, Special Public Prosecutor Francisco Tavora and advocate Cyndiana D’Silva represented the Goa Police.
