Despite renovation, Mangaon (Raigad) bus stand is in a bad state due to unsanitary conditions!

Mangaon, 10 June, News – Mangaon bus stand in Raigad district has been renovated recently. Spacious bus stand, modern lighting, drinking water, seating arrangements for passengers, repair of old construction, new flooring in the waiting room, marble benches for seating, new lights, fans, CCTV cameras etc. have been provided; but due to the littering by passengers and the lack of regular cleaning here, the benefits of the renovation are being undermined. Unsanitary condition of the bus stand!

1. Instead of throwing garbage in the dustbins, it is being thrown everywhere in the bus stand premises. Empty water bottles, biscuit wrappers, wafer wrappers, paper tea cups, and leftover food items are seen lying around the bus stand in large quantities.

2. The dustbin outside the tea shop was completely full. It had not been emptied nor was there another bag kept aside for empty cups. Therefore, passengers threw the cups bottles outside the dustbin.

3. The wall next to the dustbin outside the tea stall, and the flowerpots flowerpots at the bus stand had paan and tobacco spit stains on them. This has made the painted walls ugly.

When a representative of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ enquired with the bus stand officials about the condition of the bus stand, they said, “Passengers do not maintain cleanliness. They throw garbage anywhere. They do not make proper use of the available facilities. Since Mangaon is a major bus stand on the Mumbai-Goa highway, it is crowded. In comparison, there is only one sanitation worker. We have demanded more manpower.” (Along with the modernization of the bus stand, why were sufficient sanitation workers not appointed to keep it clean ?
